River Island are not exactly known for their forward thinking but I have to admit I’m pretty impressed with this weird and wonderful 12 minute film by director Ryan Hope, showcasing William Tempest’s A/W 2012 collection for the fashion brand. The fashion is pretty consistent with River Island’s aesthetic, nothing special in my opinion, but it’s the film itself which is worth mentioning.
The film is one continuous take with no cuts which is extremely impressive, especially given the complexity and speed of the choreography. This style of shooting is still pretty rare within the fashion genre. I’m not sure about the choice of music and the speech/sibtitles are pretty irrelevent but with its references to Stanley Kubrik’s Eyes Wide Shut and David Lynch sensibilities, it definitely get’s my approval.
